7 Pot
The 7 Pot pepper, a member of the Capsicum chinense species, originates from Trinidad and Tobago. Its name reflects the belief that a single pepper can heat up to seven pots of stew, highlighting its extreme spiciness. This pepper is renowned for its intense heat, with Scoville Heat Units (SHU) reaching approximately 1,000,000, placing it among the world's hottest peppers. Several notable varieties of the 7 Pot pepper exist, each with distinct characteristics.
The 7 Pot Douglah, also known as the Chocolate 7 Pot, is distinguished by its deep brown colour and rich, fruity flavour. The 7 Pot Primo, a cross between the original 7 Pot and the Naga Morich, is recognised for its exceptional heat and distinctive shape. Another variety, the 7 Pot Brain Strain, is named for its wrinkled appearance reminiscent of a human brain and is noted for its sharp heat and similarity to the Carolina Reaper. The 7 Pot pepper is characterised by its wrinkled, pimpled skin and a plump, ribbed texture. It typically matures to a vibrant red, though other colour variants like yellow and brown exist.
