About this pepper

The 7 Pot Brain Strain is a super-hot Capsicum chinense chilli first cultivated and popularised within chilli-growing communities in the late 2000s. Its deeply wrinkled, brain-like pod texture led to the name Brain Strain, which emerged during a forum discussion on The Hot Pepper (THP). Seeds for this pepper can be traced back to a grower known as Trinhottie, with further cultivation and sharing by THP forum user Pepper Ridge Farm in 2008. The name was adopted by the community rather than being formally assigned by the original grower.

This cultivar descends from the 7 Pot lineage originating in Trinidad and Tobago. The pods mature to a deep red colour, measure roughly 5 centimetres in length, and display a heavily bumpy surface. The heat level averages around 1,200,000 Scoville Heat Units, with a fruity flavour profile typically overshadowed by its extreme pungency.
