About this pepper

7 Pot Primo Yellow is a yellow-fruited form of the 7 Pot Primo, a superhot Capsicum chinense originally developed by Troy Primeaux in Louisiana from Trinidad 7 Pot and Naga Morich ancestry. The yellow selection keeps the core Primo identity: extreme heat, thin wrinkled skin, bumpy pod texture, and the distinctive pointed tail associated with the line, but matures to yellow and sometimes light orange rather than red.

The plant has green foliage and grows as a vigorous chinense superhot, commonly reaching over 91.5 cm tall. It produces gnarly, pendant pods with folded shoulders, rough blistered skin, and a tapered stinger. Fruit size is usually around 3 to 5 cm long, though shape can vary from compact and squat to more stretched and pointed depending on plant expression and growing conditions.

The fruit ripens from light green to yellow, with some pods finishing at a light orange-yellow stage. The mature colour is the defining feature of this variant, separating it from the original red 7 Pot Primo while retaining the same superhot structure. The pods are thin-walled, oily, heavily textured, and built around intense heat rather than flesh thickness.

The flavour is described as sweet, fruity, citrusy, floral, and sharply hot. Compared with darker or red superhots, the yellow form is often associated with a brighter citrus-style flavour, making it useful for yellow hot sauces, fermented sauces, powders, flakes, and fresh superhot applications where a bright yellow colour and aggressive heat are wanted.

7 Pot Primo Yellow sits firmly in the superhot range. Commercial listings commonly place it from about 1,000,000 to 1,500,000 SHU, with Bohica Pepper Hut listing it at 1,500,000 SHU and Tyler Farms listing an average of 1,000,000 to 1,200,000 SHU. The earliest clear online reference found for the exact name appears in a White Hot Peppers 2016 grow list, where 7 Pot Primo Yellow was listed alongside the red, chocolate, and orange Primo forms.
