African Orange
African Orange is an orange-ripening African bird pepper type first noticed from African Red pepper stock, where a plant matured orange instead of red and appears to represent a natural orange mutation or orange-fruited selection within that material. Its overall identity fits the African bird pepper group, with green foliage, a hot frutescens-type growth habit, and fruit that develops from green to orange rather than following the usual red finish seen in African Red and related peri-peri types.
The plant carries green leaves and produces hot, bird-type fruit with the same general look as African Bird Orange forms already in circulation, especially the slim, upright, small-fruited African lines grown for strong yield and clean heat. In this orange-ripening form, the main distinguishing trait is the mature pod colour, giving the plant a brighter finish while keeping the same general African bird pepper character. With heat around 30000 SHU, it sits in the hot range rather than the superhot range, making it suitable for fresh use, drying, powders, and sauces where a straight, sharp bird-pepper heat is wanted.
