About this pepper

Anaheim is a mild Capsicum annuum variety derived from New Mexico chile types. In 1894, farmer Emilio Ortega introduced these seeds to Anaheim, California, where the variety was cultivated and later popularised under its current name.

The pods typically measure between 15 and 25 centimetres in length and have a slightly curved shape with thick walls, making them well suited for stuffing. They mature from green to red, with fully ripe red pods often referred to as chile colorado. Heat levels are mild and commonly average around 1,500 Scoville Heat Units, though variation can occur depending on growing conditions.
