Bishop's Hat
Bishop's Hat, also known as Bishop's Crown, Christmas Bell, or Joker's Hat, is a Capsicum baccatum variety recognised for its distinctive three-sided shape resembling a bishop's mitre. The variety is commonly associated with Barbados and has been cultivated for many generations.
Plants typically reach between 90 and 120 centimetres in height and produce large numbers of uniquely shaped pods, often yielding 30 to 50 fruits per plant. The pods are flattened with three or four wing-like lobes, measuring approximately 4 centimetres across, and mature from pale green to red over a growing period of around 90 to 100 days.
The flesh is thin but crisp. Heat is minimal in the central body of the pod, while the outer wings are sweet and mild, making the variety suitable for fresh use and decorative culinary applications.
