Boar's Claw

Boar’s Claw is a modern Italian Capsicum chinense hybrid created by Giancarlo Gianki Fadda. Public seller descriptions identify it as a cross between Jay’s Peach Ghost Scorpion and Ghost Yaki Purple Orange, placing it firmly within Fadda’s hobby-breeding work rather than among older preserved cultivars. By June 2022 it was already being grown publicly under the Boar’s Claw name, and later specialist listings continued to credit Fadda as the breeder.

The pepper is named for the pod shape, which growers describe as resembling a boar’s claw. Public descriptions and sale photos show a productive plant carrying elongated, twisted, bumpy pods with hooked or claw-like ends rather than a smooth lantern or bonnet form. Seller notes also describe it as very productive and visually distinctive, and grower comments link it with a plant canopy that stays green but carries darker shading and pronounced purple veining.

Its most recognisable trait is the colour development. The line is repeatedly shown with dark purple immature pods that mature toward pale yellowish cream, often with retained purple blushing, lilac tones, or peach-orange flushing depending on the fruit. Public images tied to current seed listings show pods ranging from deep purple to creamy yellow, peach, and orange-tinted cream, while Matt’s Peppers describes the line more narrowly as yellowish cream with purple blushing throughout.

Flavour descriptions present Boar’s Claw as sweet, citrusy, floral, and strongly aromatic before the heat builds. Public reviews and grower descriptions place it in the superhot range, with one review estimating roughly 750000 to 850000 SHU and other grower-facing descriptions calling it a potent superhot with intense spiciness. It is also repeatedly treated as a sauce and powder pepper, with growers highlighting both its flavour and its striking appearance.

A major factual conflict appears in the phenotype description. Some growers and sellers show or discuss peach, red, or more strongly purple forms, and Matt’s own listing notes that the generation and stability are unknown.
