BOC Primo Orange
BOC Primo Orange is a modern Capsicum chinense hybrid built from Bhut Orange Copenhagen and Primo, with the original cross attributed to Paul Willett. The orange line is tied to later selection work by Bryan Townshend, who described finding the orange phenotype in 2017 from early-generation seed after most growers were seeing red pods. Public discussion of the line already existed by June 25, 2015, when an Official Orange Primo x BOC grow thread appeared on The Hot Pepper, placing the line in circulation by that date.
The plant is described as medium to large, hardy, and highly productive. Seller descriptions present it as a strong-yielding superhot that is not especially fussy in cultivation, with medium-sized plants and heavy pod set. Broader Primo x BOC listings place the plant at about 60.0 to 100.0 cm tall, while other listings describe plants over 90.0 cm in good conditions, which fits its reputation as a vigorous, high-output chinense hybrid rather than a small ornamental type.
The fruit is one of the defining traits of the line. Pods start light green and mature to orange, and are typically described as wrinkled, bumpy, and irregular, often with Moruga-like tips or a gnarly peach-like look. Published pod size is about 2.5 to 6.5 cm long, with a heavily textured superhot form that reflects both sides of its parentage. That orange finish is central to the identity of BOC Primo Orange and separates it from the red phenotypes that circulated from the same broader cross.
Flavour descriptions consistently emphasise fruitiness. Sources describe slight fruit tones, floral notes, sweetness, and a tropical edge before the full heat builds, making the line notable not just for heat but for taste. It is repeatedly recommended for hot sauces, salsas, marinades, and dried powder where that fruity profile can still come through.
Its heat is firmly in the superhot range. Published figures place Primo x BOC material around 1000000 to 1500000 SHU, and seller references for the orange line describe it as extremely hot rather than merely very hot. Across current references, the core identity is stable: a Paul Willett BOC x Primo hybrid with a selected orange phenotype, green foliage, high production, fruity flavour, and serious superhot heat.
