About this pepper

BOC x Reaper Orange is a modern superhot Capsicum chinense hybrid made from Bhut Orange Copenhagen and Carolina Reaper. Exact-name seller descriptions describe it as producing peach-coloured pods shaped much like a red Carolina Reaper, with fruity flavour and strong heat. Separate live references also confirm that BOC in this name stands for Bhut Orange Copenhagen.

The history of this line is more traceable than many generic shop listings. Towns-End states that the original BOC x Reaper cross was created by Paul Willet shortly before he retired from growing peppers, and that original seeds were received directly from him in 2015. Towns-End also notes that the first orange phenotype appeared in 2016 from the red BOC x Reaper line, and that additional orange generations appeared again in 2018 and 2019. That makes this clearly a tracked orange phenotype line rather than a one-off odd pod.

The main thing that does not line up perfectly online is how stable the line is. Trade Winds openly describes it as possibly still unstable, and Towns-End’s own notes about recurring orange generations and phenotype selection point the same way. That also explains why some growers treat BOC x Reaper Orange as a named orange Reaper-type line in its own right, while Towns-End later released one tracked orange selection separately under the name Repo Man.

Culturally, this sits in the modern rare-seed and superhot collector scene rather than in any traditional regional food culture. Live sources frame it around breeder lineage, phenotype selection, fruity flavour, and extreme heat. Grower comments also describe it as very productive with strong flavour, which fits its appeal in hobby superhot circles.
