About this pepper

Borg 9 is a super-hot hybrid created by UK grower Jon Harper, known online as “Borg”. It is commonly described as a cross between 7 Pot types and Dorset Naga lines. The exact original parent combination has not been formally published in an official breeder release, but grower discussions consistently credit Borg in the United Kingdom as the originator.

Plants typically grow between 90.0 and 120.0 cm tall in warm conditions. Pods are heavily wrinkled and bumpy, usually measuring about 4.5 to 6.5 cm long and 3.0 to 4.0 cm wide. Immature pods are green and ripen to red. Some variation in pod shape has been reported depending on seed source and generation.

Heat is widely described as extremely high. Most grower reports place it around or above 1000000 SHU. There are no widely published independent laboratory tests specific to Borg 9. The 1000000 SHU figure reflects repeated community estimates rather than certified measurement.

The name refers to the breeder’s nickname and a selected plant number from his breeding work. Borg 9 became known in chilli growing forums during the early 2010s, particularly within super-hot breeding communities in the UK and Europe.

Because early distribution occurred through grower exchanges rather than a controlled commercial release, some inconsistency between seed sources has been noted. Some sellers describe it broadly as a 7 Pot type, while others emphasise the Naga influence. This suggests possible genetic variation between lines.
