About this pepper

Borg 9 Mustard is a modern superhot Capsicum chinense line tied to the Borg 9 family. The broader Borg 9 background is clearer than the mustard phenotype itself, with Jon Harper widely credited for creating Borg 9 from 7 Pot Bubblegum x Naglah. Current Borg 9 descriptions present it as an extremely hot, productive plant with heavily wrinkled, bumpy pods and a fruity flavour beneath the heat. Exact Borg 9 Mustard listings show the mustard form as a later offshoot rather than the original Borg 9 itself.

The strongest exact-name clue for the mustard form is Towns-End’s note that these F2 plants appeared from Chocolate Borg 9 Bleeding material in South Florida, with hopes of selecting bleeding calyx traits. That makes Borg 9 Mustard look like a selected segregating mustard phenotype from Borg 9-related stock rather than an old fixed traditional variety. Online, the phenotype is still a bit messy, with some growers calling it Borg 9 Mustard, some linking it to chocolate material, and others simply treating it as another Borg 9 colour form.

Origin is one of the messier points online. Some sellers call Borg 9 Mustard UK-origin, which makes sense if they are referring back to the original Borg 9 made by Jon Harper. Others call it Trinidad or Caribbean, which appears to be more generic Borg/7 Pot copy than a specific documented history for this mustard phenotype. For the exact mustard line, the most specific traceable source points to the Towns-End South Florida selection, which is why United States is the cleanest country entry here.

Heat is clearly in the superhot range but not perfectly settled. Exact mustard references describe it as over 1,000,000 SHU, one exact-name Italian listing gives 1,300,000 SHU, and other sellers use broader “1 million+” style language. The 1,300,000 SHU value used here is therefore a trade figure rather than a lab-confirmed universal number.

Morphology is somewhat clearer. Current listings describe the plant as roughly 80.0 to 130.0 cm tall, with fruit around 4.0 to 5.0 cm long and 2.5 to 3.5 cm wide. Sellers also describe it as very productive, fitting the broader prolific superhot pattern repeated for Borg 9 lines.

Culturally, Borg 9 Mustard sits squarely in the modern rare-seed and superhot grower scene rather than in any traditional regional food culture. Live listings frame it around collector appeal, colour-form novelty, intense heat, and use in hot sauces, salsas, marinades, and other processed products.
