Brown Egg

Brown Egg is an uncommon Capsicum chinense variety that was already circulating among growers by October 2011 and was in commercial seed listings by 2014. It is grown for its distinctive egg-shaped brown pods and for a flavour profile that is repeatedly described as sweet, fruity, smoky, earthy, and only mildly to moderately hot rather than aggressively pungent.

The pods are plump to oblong and strongly egg-shaped, with thick walls and a juicy texture. Detailed seller descriptions place them at about 4 to 5 cm long and 3 cm wide, ripening from green to a rich brown or chocolate brown. The fruit is regularly described as heavy, fleshy, and well suited to fresh use, stuffing, grilling, preserving, and cooking.

The plant is described as bushy and compact to medium-sized, reaching about 60 cm in a pot and up to about 85 cm in larger growing conditions. Across listings it is presented as a productive chinense with a tidy growth habit and a strong ornamental look once the brown pods begin to colour. Its core identity is consistent across the seed trade: a bushy brown-fruited chinense with thick-walled egg-shaped pods, mild to medium heat, and a sweet smoky flavour profile.
