Cabai Rawit
Cabai Rawit, commonly referred to as bird's eye chilli, is a traditional Capsicum frutescens type that holds major cultural and culinary importance in Indonesia. It is a staple ingredient in many Indonesian dishes, particularly sambal, where its intense heat plays a central role.
The pods are small, typically measuring between 1 and 5 centimetres in length, and grow upright on bushy plants. Fruits mature from green to bright red at full ripeness. Plants commonly exceed 50 centimetres in height and are highly productive.
Cabai Rawit is valued for its sharp, direct heat and clean chilli flavour. It is widely cultivated across Indonesia with local variation in pod size, shape, and pungency, reflecting its status as a long-established regional landrace.
