About this pepper

Capsicum galapagoense is a rare wild Capsicum species endemic to the Galápagos Islands, with natural populations documented on Isabela and Santa Cruz. The species is adapted to the unique island environment and is considered one of the most geographically restricted members of the genus.

Plants are compact and may reach up to approximately 1.2 metres in height. A defining characteristic is the presence of dense, silvery, hairy foliage, which releases a strong and pleasant aroma when handled. Flowers are small and white, followed by tiny, round berries.

The fruits mature from dark green to red and are relatively small. Heat levels are mild to moderate, commonly reported around 5,000 Scoville Heat Units. Due to its limited habitat and specific ecological requirements, Capsicum galapagoense is considered rare in the wild and is primarily maintained today by collectors and specialist growers.
