Carbonero
Carbonero is a dark-coloured superhot pepper bred in the United States by Troy Primeaux. It is a cross between Bhut Jolokia and 7 Pot Douglah, selected for deep brown to reddish-brown mature colour and strong heat.
Pods are typically 5–7.5 cm long and about 2.5–3.5 cm wide, with a wrinkled, slightly elongated shape. They ripen from green to deep chocolate-brown, often showing red tones depending on growing conditions. Surface texture is moderately bumpy but generally less folded than many 7 Pot types.
Plants commonly reach about 75–100 cm tall under strong growing conditions. Yield is described as moderate to heavy for a superhot type.
Heat level is widely reported between 300,000 and 400,000 SHU depending on growing conditions. A working figure of 350,000 SHU represents a balanced mid-range estimate.
Flavour is often described as sweet and slightly smoky before strong heat develops, consistent with reported Douglah parentage, though flavour descriptions are subjective and not formally measured.
Carbonero is a stabilised hybrid created by a known breeder rather than a traditional landrace. Minor variations in pod shape and colour intensity are reported between seed sources, likely due to different selection lines. Its origin and parentage are consistently reported within chilli-growing communities.
