About this pepper

Colombian Yellow (also sold as Colombian Ají Yellow / Ají Colombian Yellow) is a Capsicum baccatum ají type circulated under a few closely related names. Seed listings consistently describe it as very high yielding with a fruity, sweet flavour and “nice heat.” Pods are described as starting pale green to whitish and ripening to yellow, and multiple sellers position it as well suited to sauces, salsas, pickles, and drying for powder.

Heat reporting is relatively consistent compared with many hobby peppers. Two independent grower-style sources converge on roughly 20 000 SHU (often written as 20 000 +/-), which matches the general “noticeable but manageable” heat framing in seed listings.

Physical size information is less consistent across sources. One grow log lists fruit at about 4.0 cm and around 3.0 g with a plant around 60 cm tall, while a separate seller listing describes the plants as becoming “very large” without providing a number. This mismatch could reflect differing growing conditions, or the possibility that “Colombian Yellow” is being applied to more than one closely related Colombian yellow baccatum line in circulation. A seller note that they carry two Colombian baccatum varieties (yellow and orange) supports the idea that this name can sit within a small cluster of similarly labelled Colombian ají types.

Culturally, the “ají” naming and Colombian attribution align with its repeated presentation as a pepper for fresh, bright condiments and sauces, matching how sellers describe its use.
