About this pepper

Comstock Purple is a stable Capsicum annuum variety developed in the United States by Matthew Arthur around 2009. It is recognised for its distinctive colour development and ornamental appearance.

Plants typically reach approximately 1 metre in height and produce elongated, tapered pods measuring about 6 centimetres long and 2 centimetres wide. Fruits begin with a green and purple coloration and mature to a deep red-purple at full ripeness. Pods have thin walls and set well on the plant.

The flavour is mildly sweet with a medium heat level, averaging around 40,000 Scoville Heat Units. Comstock Purple is grown for both culinary use and ornamental display and is considered a stabilised modern variety.
