Information

Corona is a sweet bell pepper that ripens from green to orange. It is commonly described as very sweet and used fresh, including in salads. Fruit are blocky bells, typically about 7.5–10.5 cm long and 7.5–10.5 cm wide, borne pendant on the plant, usually with 3–5 lobes and thick walls. Some catalogues list fruit weights up to about 227 g. Corona is listed as resistant to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) on Cornell’s pepper resistance list, and this claim is repeated by multiple seed sellers. Maturity is generally placed at 70–80 days after transplanting. Some sellers separate stages, around 65 days for green harvest and about 85 days for fully orange ripe fruit, which aligns with the longer time needed to reach full colour and sweetness. Plant height listings vary. Some sources describe plants at about 45.5–61 cm tall, while others report plants reaching around 122 cm. This large difference suggests either strain variation under the same name or differing growing conditions affecting reported height. Many listings do not state an origin. One detailed seed listing describes it as reportedly a Dutch variety from the early 1990s, but this is presented without a named breeder record.
