Emerald Giant

Emerald Giant is a United States sweet bell pepper introduced in 1963. Public variety references tie it to USDA breeding work, while the North American cultivar record lists Northrup, King and Co. as breeder and vendor. It is consistently described as an open-pollinated heirloom bell pepper selected for strong plant structure and heavy yields of large fruit.

The plant is vigorous and productive, generally reaching about 66 to 76 cm tall and sometimes up to about 91.5 cm under strong growing conditions. It is repeatedly described as suitable for containers as well as standard garden growing, and multiple seed references note good performance in warm or hot conditions. Some listings also note resistance to Tobacco Mosaic Virus.

The fruit is large, blocky, mostly four-lobed, and thick-walled, usually about 10 to 13 cm long and 8 to 10 cm wide. Pods begin dark green and mature red, with crisp juicy flesh and a sweet flavour.
