About this pepper

Fatalii Yellow, also sold as Yellow Fatalii, is a yellow-ripening Capsicum chinense heirloom known for its sharp citrus flavour and fast, immediate burn. Seller descriptions commonly compare the heat style to habanero-type peppers, but note that the heat arrives very quickly before the citrus character becomes more noticeable.

Pods are usually described as tapered and ribbed, commonly reaching about 7.5 cm long. Plants are generally described as bushy and compact, most often around 60.0–75.0 cm tall, though some grower and seller reports place them as high as about 91.5 cm under favourable conditions.

Heat reporting varies by source. Published figures include broad ranges such as 125000–400000 SHU as well as single-number claims around 300000 SHU. The value of 300000 SHU is used here as a practical midpoint that fits inside the most commonly repeated heat range.

Origin reporting is inconsistent online. Some sellers describe the pepper as originating from South Africa, while other more specific descriptions place it in the Central African Republic. Another source frames it as a Capsicum chinense type that became established in Africa after introduction from the Caribbean. Because the Central African Republic attribution is the most specific origin claim in circulation, that is the country used here.

Fatalii Yellow is frequently recommended for drying and powder production due to the relatively thin flesh noted by several sources. In hobby growing circles it is also commonly valued as a citrus-forward sauce pepper.
