About this pepper

Habanero Yellow is a yellow-fruited form of the habanero chilli within the species Capsicum chinense. It produces wrinkled, lantern-shaped pods that ripen from green to bright yellow at maturity.

The heat level is commonly reported between approximately 200 000–350 000 Scoville Heat Units, placing it firmly in the very hot category. These values align with standard habanero heat ranges and are derived from seed listings and grower descriptions rather than independent laboratory testing specific to this colour form.

Plants are generally described as compact to medium-sized, reaching around 60–80 cm in height under typical growing conditions. Mature pods are reported at approximately 5.0–6.5 cm long and about 2.5–4.5 cm wide. Fruit hangs downward and develops a glossy, bright yellow finish.

Flavour is consistently described as intensely fruity and aromatic alongside strong heat. This fruity character makes Yellow Habanero popular for sauces, salsas, marinades, and Caribbean- and Mexican-style dishes where bright colour and tropical notes are valued.

Habanero types trace their broader historical roots to the Amazon basin and later spread through the Caribbean and Mesoamerica. The yellow variant represents a colour mutation or selection within the habanero group rather than a separate species or formally registered cultivar. Some modern commercial production occurs in regions such as Texas, but the historical association of habanero peppers remains tied to the Yucatán Peninsula and Caribbean region.

Because “Habanero Yellow” refers to a colour form rather than a named breeder-developed cultivar, pod dimensions and exact heat figures vary slightly between sources. However, all commercial listings describe it as very hot, fruity, and visually distinctive.
