Jalapeno Agriset

Jalapeno Agriset is a modern Capsicum annuum hybrid jalapeno line developed and marketed in the United States, commonly listed under names such as Agriset 4109 in commercial seed catalogues. It is part of F1 hybrid jalapeno breeding focused on yield, uniform pod size and early maturity.

Plants are described as compact to medium in size, often around 60 cm tall in container growing, and larger when planted in-ground. They are reported to produce heavy yields of uniform pods.

Pods are typically about 9.0–10.0 cm long and about 2.0–2.5 cm wide, with thick flesh and a classic cylindrical jalapeno shape. Corking, the tan cracking pattern on the skin, is commonly observed and is considered desirable in traditional jalapeno markets.

Heat is generally reported between 3500 and 5000 SHU. A working value of 3500 SHU reflects the lower end of typical vendor listings. No widely published independent laboratory heat test specific to the Agriset name has been formally documented, and heat may vary depending on growing conditions.

The variety is often described as early fruiting, sometimes around 60 days to maturity, and marketed as crack-resistant to reduce fruit splitting. These claims are based on commercial seed descriptions rather than published academic breeding papers.

Flavour is described in grower notes as sweet-spicy and juicy, consistent with standard jalapeno culinary use. Pods are used for stuffing, pickling, grilling, salsas and fresh preparation.
