About this pepper

Jalapeño Tam is a Capsicum annuum cultivar developed by Texas A&M University in the early 1990s. It was bred to retain the flavour of traditional jalapeños while significantly reducing heat.

Plants are compact, typically reaching 60 to 76 centimetres in height, and are productive. Pods are smooth, glossy, and dark green, measuring around 7.5 centimetres long, and will mature to red if left on the plant.

Heat levels are low, averaging around 1,000 Scoville Heat Units. Jalapeño Tam also shows resistance to common pepper viruses, including potato virus Y, making it popular with home gardeners and commercial growers seeking mild jalapeños with reliable performance.
