Jays Red Ghost Scorpion

Jays Red Ghost Scorpion is an extremely hot chilli developed in the United States, widely attributed to a grower known as Jay, commonly cited as Jay Weaver from Eastern Pennsylvania. It is a hybrid cross between Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) and Trinidad Scorpion lines, combining traits from both parents.

Pods ripen from green to bright red. Fruit are typically bumpy and knobbly, often with a pointed or stinger-like tail similar to Trinidad Scorpion types. Pod shape is variable. Some fruit are longer with defined tails, while others appear shorter and more contorted. This variation suggests the line may not be fully stabilised.

Heat levels reported by seed sellers and online sources vary significantly. Some list the pepper at around 700000–800000 SHU, while others report 800000–1100000 SHU. A working figure of 900000 SHU reflects a mid-range value based on commonly reported estimates. No widely published independent laboratory testing data is formally documented in agricultural records, and reported heat levels appear to rely largely on grower or vendor claims.

Plants are typical of Capsicum chinense growth habit, though specific formal plant height data is rarely documented in seed listings. The variety became available through online seed communities and specialist chilli vendors during the 2010s.
