Jemez Pueblo

Jemez Pueblo is a Capsicum annuum landrace traditionally cultivated by the Jemez Pueblo community in New Mexico, United States. It is maintained through generational seed saving and local farming practices.

Plants typically grow slightly over 60 centimetres in height and mature early, producing a high proportion of red ripe fruit compared to green. Pods measure approximately 10 to 13 centimetres in length.

The peppers are grown at elevations around 1,800 metres and are valued for their mild to medium heat, averaging about 11,000 Scoville Heat Units based on testing at New Mexico State University. Jemez Pueblo peppers are used for roasting, stuffing, drying, and sauces and remain closely tied to local agricultural traditions.
