About this pepper

Jimmy Nardello Yellow, also called Yellow Nardello, is a modern United States sweet pepper associated with Anne Berblinger of Gales Meadow Farm in Oregon. It was publicly being shown by 2014 at the Culinary Breeding Network Variety Showcase, and it was formally released through the Open Source Seed Initiative in 2015. Breeder-linked and seed network sources present it as a yellow Nardello-type line discovered at Gales Meadow Farm, while later retail descriptions also circulate a version of the story that frames it as a chance crossing with an unknown yellow pepper.

The plant is described as compact, early, and heavily productive, making it especially useful in shorter-season climates and suitable for raised beds, pots, and market growing. The pods are long, slender, and tapered, usually about 15 to 25 cm long, with medium-thick walls and the classic twisted frying-pepper look associated with the Nardello type. They ripen from green to yellow, sometimes described more specifically as a dark golden yellow, and usually mature about 7 to 10 days later than the red Jimmy Nardello.

Its defining character is a sweet frying-pepper flavour with a slightly milder sweetness than the red Jimmy Nardello, paired with crisp flesh when fresh and a soft buttery texture when cooked. It is repeatedly described as excellent for frying, roasting, grilling, blistering, and other fresh-market kitchen uses. Growers also note that the line can still throw occasional off-types, including moderately spicy rogue pods known as Hot Jimmy, but the main identity of Jimmy Nardello Yellow is a yellow-fruited, compact, productive Nardello-type sweet pepper selected and shared from Gales Meadow Farm.
