About this pepper

Lamuyo is a large, elongated sweet pepper type strongly associated with Spain. It is widely documented as Spanish in origin and is recognised as a commercial pepper class in Spain rather than a single protected hybrid.

Fruit are long and blocky, more rectangular than typical bell peppers. Average pod size is about 12.5–15.5 cm long and 6.5–7.5 cm wide. Pods are pendant and ripen from green to red. Walls are thick and fleshy.

Plants commonly reach about 61–76.5 cm tall. Maturity is usually given as 70–80 days after transplanting, placing it in the midseason category.

The Lamuyo type is widely grown in Spain for fresh markets and roasting, and is often sold as a premium fresh red pepper. In Spain, “Lamuyo” refers to a recognised market class rather than a single named breeding release.

There is confusion online between the Lamuyo type and specific commercial hybrids such as “Lido Lamuyo”, which appears to be a named strain within the Lamuyo class. Some United States listings incorrectly list Lamuyo as US origin, likely reflecting seed distribution rather than the origin of the type itself.

No credible sources report measurable heat, and it is consistently classified as a sweet pepper.
