Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion Mustard
Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion Mustard is a superhot Capsicum chinense hybrid grown within the Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion line. It is described as an unknown cross from Kraken Scorpion stock, and the mustard form is specifically identified as a new colour variant discovered by Jason Abercrombie of Abercrombie Hot Peppers in Kingston, Tennessee. It was already being shown publicly as a mustard variation in 2023 and was later offered through specialist seed sellers as Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion Mustard.
The pods are long, fairly straight, and heavily textured with a brainy, gnarly, warty surface. Descriptions of the Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion line place the fruit at up to about 10.5 cm long, with thin walls and a very aggressive superhot presentation. The mustard form is sold as a distinct ripe colour expression of that same line, replacing the dark red finish of the red form with a rich mustard hue at maturity.
Plant descriptions for the Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion line describe vigorous, productive plants that can reach about 91.5 cm tall, with smaller potted plants often staying closer to about 45.5 cm while still fruiting heavily. Sellers describe the line as productive and suitable for drying, and the fruit is repeatedly characterised as brutally hot with a good flavour.
Culturally, the mustard form sits within the modern specialist superhot scene rather than as an old heirloom or regional landrace. It is circulated through small pepper growers, seed sellers, and review channels as a rare colour variant from the Leviathan Gnarly Scorpion family, alongside red, caramel, and chocolate expressions. Its identity is tied to the combination of Kraken Scorpion-derived background, elongated gnarly scorpion-type pods, and the distinctive mustard ripe colour that separates it from the darker red and caramel forms sold under the same broader Leviathan name.
