Lilac Cayenne
Lilac Cayenne, also sold as Cayenne Lilac and often overlapping with Fruta Lila in Australian seed listings, is a cayenne-type Capsicum annuum grown for its strong multi-stage pod colouring and heavy fruit set. Multiple seller descriptions present it as a productive plant carrying many slender pods that shift from green into lilac or dark purple tones before finishing red at full maturity.
Pod measurements are fairly consistent across seed listings, with fruits commonly described as reaching about 12.0 cm long and around 2.0 cm wide. Plant height is often given at approximately 80 cm.
Heat is usually sold in the 30,000–50,000 SHU range, making 40,000 SHU a reasonable midpoint for a single-number entry.
The foliage contributes to the ornamental appeal. Sellers describe green leaves with purple-tinged veins, and sometimes an overall purple cast to the foliage. Some listings also mention purple flowers, which fits the anthocyanin expression seen in the fruit during the lilac and dark purple stages.
Naming is somewhat inconsistent in the seed trade. In Australia especially, Fruta Lila is described in almost the same way, with pods starting green and lilac, passing through a purple stage, and ripening red. This strongly suggests that Lilac Cayenne and Fruta Lila are either the same line sold under different names or extremely closely related stock in circulation.
