Madame Jeanette
Madame Jeanette, also known as Suriname Yellow, is a Capsicum chinense pepper native to Suriname. It is closely related to other chinense peppers such as habanero and Scotch bonnet and is a key ingredient in Surinamese cuisine.
Plants are relatively compact and highly productive. Pods typically measure between 5 and 7.5 centimetres in length and have a wrinkled surface, often resembling a slightly elongated bell pepper. Fruits mature from green to a bright yellow colour.
Heat levels are high, averaging around 225,000 Scoville Heat Units. In addition to its pungency, Madame Jeanette is valued for its strong fruity aroma and flavour, often described with notes of mango and pineapple. The plant can be grown indoors but is sensitive to cooler temperatures. The origin of the name is uncertain and is commonly attributed to regional folklore.
