Mattapeno x Purple Cacho White Leaf is a Capsicum annuum hybrid that traces through the Daybreaker line, with the earliest located public reference appearing on 18 February 2023 when daybreaker_79 showed the cross at the F2 stage. Later public posts showed the same cross at F3 in May 2024 and F4 by October 2024, showing that it continued forward as a selected breeding project rather than a one-off plant.

The cross brings together two highly decorative parents. Mattapeño is Matt's variegated jalapeño, a line he developed after finding an unusual variegated plant in a commercial greenhouse and growing it on until it became a white-leaved, purple-stemmed, heavily variegated jalapeño with striped pods. Purple Cacho White Leaf is a Denmark-linked Capsicum annuum created from Purple Tiger x Cacho Negro, known for white-and-green variegated foliage, purple-green stems, and purple fruit that ripen to dark red.

As grown and traded, Mattapeno x Purple Cacho White Leaf is an ornamental-hot type with strong foliage contrast and dramatic pod colour development. The earliest F2 description notes pods beginning light green to white with darker green striping or solid green areas, while later seller descriptions of the Mattapeño x Purple Cacho line describe dark marbling and fruit that ripen on to red. Seller-grown plants from this line have been described as prolific, with smooth glossy pods about 6.5 cm long on plants around 61 cm tall, giving it a compact, showy form suited to container growing as well as collectors interested in variegated pepper breeding.

Its identity sits in the overlap between jalapeño-type breeding and ornamental variegated pepper work. The Mattapeño side contributes the white-variegated jalapeño character and purple stem pigmentation, while Purple Cacho White Leaf contributes the heavier decorative foliage patterning and darker ripe fruit tones. That combination is what makes this cross stand out: a plant grown as much for the foliage display and shifting pod colours as for its mild-to-medium heat and usable annuum fruit.
