About this pepper

Midwest Fiesta Orange is a modern ornamental Capsicum annuum hybrid created by Jim of Midwest Gardener in Kansas, United States. Public breeder posts show the line by October 8, 2024, and identify it as a cross involving Yellow Monster Pepper and an unknown pepper. By 2026 it was already being sold at F6 generation, with breeder-linked listings noting that the line had been fairly stable since about F3.

The plant is a very compact variegated type made for containers and small spaces. Seller descriptions consistently place it at about 20.5 to 30.5 cm tall, with a spreading habit rather than a tall upright form. The foliage is variegated, giving the plant an ornamental look even before fruit begins to colour.

The pods are elongated and slender, about 5 to 7.5 cm long, and are typically borne in clumps of 6 to 8 fruit. They begin a very light cream to pale yellow shade and ripen to orange. The line is repeatedly described as heavily productive for its size, with compact plants often carrying large numbers of pods at once.

Midwest Fiesta Orange is treated mainly as an ornamental pepper with mild usable heat rather than as a serious hot variety. Current listings describe it as mildly pungent, low in heat, and more ornamental than culinary, though it is still suggested for fresh use, pickling, and colourful accents. Its core identity is tied to the combination of compact growth, green-and-white variegated foliage, clustered slender fruit, and the cream-to-orange ripening pattern that separates it from the red form in the same Midwest Fiesta group.
