About this pepper

Midwest Fiesta Red is a modern ornamental Capsicum annuum hybrid developed by Jim of Midwest Gardener in Kansas, United States. Public breeder posts identify it as a cross between Midwest Fiesta Green and an unknown variegated pepper, and by late 2025 it had already been named and released alongside other Midwest Fiesta colour forms. Seed listings in 2026 describe the line at F6 generation, showing that it had already been carried forward through several generations of selection.

The plant is a very compact ornamental type suited to containers, usually reaching about 15.5 to 30.5 cm high. Grower and seller descriptions emphasise its variegated foliage, clumping pod set, and small-space habit, with some recommending several plants together in a 10 gallon grow bag for display. Public listings also describe it as a micro dwarf or very small dwarf pepper that performs well in a 1 gallon pot.

The fruit is elongated, commonly about 5 to 7.5 cm long, and borne upright in clusters. Seller descriptions consistently describe the pods as starting pale yellow before ripening red, while some retail listings describe the immature pods as white and the ripe colour as dark red. The public identity of the pepper is centred on that compact variegated plant combined with narrow clustered red fruit rather than on large pod size or culinary yield.

In current circulation, Midwest Fiesta Red is treated mainly as an ornamental pepper that also has usable mild heat. Public descriptions call the line mildly hot, with not much flavour, and breeder release notes present it as one of the ornamental crossover peppers suitable for hot pickles. Its appeal is therefore tied more to its decorative foliage, compact size, and colourful clustered fruit than to high pungency.
