Midwest Madre Juanita

Midwest Madre Juanita is a modern United States hybrid from Jim of Midwest Gardener in Kansas, later released through Matt's Peppers as Midwest Madre Juanita F4. Public breeder descriptions state that it came from a Corbaci x Midwest Odapeno cross that was then crossed again with a variegated pepper. It was already in public circulation in 2025 and was being sold as an F4 line by March 2026.

The plant is described by its breeder as one of his favourites, a strong ornamental, and a good container pepper. Public sale text says plants can range from about 45.5 cm to 91.5 cm tall, with some plants showing outstanding variegation. The foliage is green and white variegated, and grower images show heavily marbled leaves with large white sectors that give the plant a very bright decorative look even before the fruit fully colours.

The fruit is long, narrow, and often slightly curved, fitting the elongated annuum shape expected from the Corbaci side of the background. Public breeder text says some pods can be almost solid white, while others are green and white striped or yellow and white striped. Images from the released line show a broad colour range on the plant at once, including green-and-white striped immature fruit, pale cream fruit, yellow fruit, orange fruit, and fully ripe red fruit. This gives Midwest Madre Juanita a strong ornamental identity centred on variegation in both leaves and pods rather than on a single flat pod colour.

Its flavour profile has been described by the breeder as very sweet while still carrying a noticeable amount of heat, which separates it from the nearly heatless Midwest Odapeno parent and the sweet Corbaci parent. In current circulation it is treated more as a decorative, sweet-fruited ornamental with usable pungency than as a high-heat chilli. By late 2025 it was already being used in further breeding, including a cross with a yellow pepper that had a bleeding calyx, showing that Midwest Madre Juanita had quickly become both a standalone named line and a breeding parent in the Midwest Gardener pepper lineup.
