Murupi Amarela
Murupi Amarela is a Capsicum chinense pepper native to northern Brazil, particularly the Amazon region. The name translates to “yellow murupi”, although ripe pods are most often creamy white, sometimes developing a yellow tint if left on the plant longer.
Plants are compact, typically reaching up to 60 centimetres in height, and are well suited to container growing. Despite their size, they are highly productive. Pods are wrinkled and irregular, measuring approximately 6 to 7 centimetres long and about 1 centimetre wide. Fruits mature from light green to creamy white.
The texture is crisp and the flavour is sweet with lemon-citrus notes. Heat levels are comparable to habanero peppers, averaging around 100,000 Scoville Heat Units. Murupi Amarela is commonly dried into powder or used in traditional Brazilian sauces.
