NuMex Easter
NuMex Easter is an ornamental Capsicum annuum cultivar developed by the Chile Pepper Institute at New Mexico State University and released in 2014. It was recognised as an All-America Selections winner for its garden performance.
Plants are very compact, typically reaching around 20 centimetres in height and 25 centimetres in width, making them well suited to containers and decorative plantings. Pods grow upright in clusters of four to six and are bullet-shaped.
Fruits mature through pastel colour stages, including lavender, pale yellow, and orange, before finally turning red, giving the plant an appearance similar to Easter eggs. Heat levels are relatively high for an ornamental pepper, averaging around 30,000 Scoville Heat Units. While edible, the variety is primarily grown for visual appeal and durability across a wide range of growing conditions.
