Orange Peter x Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry
Orange Peter x Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry is a Capsicum annuum hybrid built from two very distinctive parents: Orange Peter, a medium-heat orange Peter Pepper type with long, thin-walled pods about 10 cm long on plants that can reach about 122 cm, and Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry, a sweet mini bell developed by PanAmerican Seed with eye-catching variegated foliage and striped fruit about 9 to 10 cm long and 6 to 7 cm wide. The named cross combines the novelty pod shape, tangy medium-heat character and orange ripe colour associated with Orange Peter with the green-and-white variegated foliage, striped immature fruit and chocolate-to-cherry ripe tones associated with Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry. As a plant concept, it sits in the ornamental-culinary space, combining strong garden display value with usable annuum fruit, and its visual appeal would centre on the contrast between variegated foliage and multistage fruit colouring. The Candy Cane Chocolate Cherry side also brings a recent commercial breeding story, having been introduced as a new Ball Horticultural featured pepper by 2021 and noted as part of PanAmerican Seed's striped sweet pepper line, giving this cross a modern breeder-to-grower lineage rather than an old heirloom background.
