Pink Tiger
Pink Tiger is a Capsicum chinense hybrid developed in Italy during the 2010s. It is commonly described as a cross between Bhut Jolokia and Pimenta de Neyde lines, with Italian growers credited for selecting and stabilising the variety before it entered wider seed distribution.
Plants typically grow as bushy shrubs about 60–90 cm tall. Foliage is lush and may show darker tones influenced by Pimenta de Neyde genetics.
Pods begin green to dark purple and mature through pink, peach, cream, yellow or mixed tones depending on plant expression and growing conditions. Some plants show striping or colour blending, while others produce more solid tones. Striping is frequently mentioned in listings but is not always consistent across all plants.
Pods generally measure about 4.0–6.0 cm long and about 2.0–3.5 cm wide, with a somewhat elongated and slightly wrinkled form typical of chinense hybrids.
Heat is reported between about 200000 and 350000 SHU by seed sellers and grower sources. A working estimate of 275000 SHU reflects a midpoint of commonly reported ranges. No clearly published independent laboratory Scoville test tied specifically to the Pink Tiger name has been widely documented, and heat may vary by strain and conditions.
Flavour is commonly described as fruity and strong with noticeable heat. These flavour descriptions are subjective and based on grower and culinary reports rather than laboratory sensory testing.
Origin references most consistently point to Italy as the breeding location. However, formal breeder documentation is limited, and some sellers list origin simply as unknown or as a mixed chinense line. This lack of formal publication creates minor uncertainty around the precise early breeding history.
Pink Tiger gained visibility through online seed listings and grower communities during the 2010s, with its main appeal centred on pod colour transitions and ornamental value combined with significant heat.
