Purple Thundergum is a modern superhot Capsicum chinense hybrid circulating in seed trade as a cross between Purple Thunder and an unknown BBG7 variety. It is sold as an unstable line rather than a fixed finished cultivar, with sellers noting that pod colour, shape, and calyx expression can vary from plant to plant.

The plant is especially noted for its dark ornamental look. Sellers describe the stems as deep purple to black and the foliage as similarly dark, giving the plant a very heavy anthocyanin expression even before the pods fully colour. The fruit is described as having a prominent calyx, and mature pods are repeatedly described as showing a mix of dark purple, chocolate, and deep red tones rather than a simple plain red finish. Grower photos and discussion also describe unripe pods as nearly black in shade and very purple in direct sun, with red developing at the top as the fruit fully matures.
