Quadrato D’asti Giallo
Quadrato D’asti Giallo is a large Italian sweet pepper from the Asti area in Piedmont. It represents the yellow, or giallo, form of the Quadrato d’Asti type, with fruit ripening from green to golden yellow.
Pods are large and blocky to elongated, typically about 15–18 cm long and 9–10 cm wide, borne pendant on the plant. Flesh is thick and sweet.
Plants are commonly listed at about 60–76.5 cm tall.
It is widely used in Italian cooking, especially for frying and roasting, and is also eaten fresh. Sources often note that flavour improves when roasted or grilled, and the thick walls suit stuffing.
Local accounts from the Asti area describe the peperone quadrato d’Asti being grown for over a century in soils south of Asti, including the Tanaro river plain. No credible sources report measurable heat, and it is consistently classified as a sweet pepper.
