Ragnarok
Ragnarok is a modern United States Capsicum chinense cultivar associated with breeder Kevin Bane of Cooley Springs, South Carolina. It is a superhot selection that was already in a Ragnarok F3 growout in 2022 and had advanced to F5 by the time later seed listings described it as fairly stable. Retailers consistently present it as an extremely hot, gnarly-looking pepper with a Scoville level around 1,000,000 SHU, dark green fruit that mature red, and strong variation in pod shape, with some pods carrying tails and others remaining tail-less.
The fruit is grown for both visual impact and flavour. Descriptions repeatedly emphasise heavy bumps, spikes, wrinkling, and an aggressive superhot look, while also noting that the flavour is better than many other superhots, with fruity and slightly floral notes. Grower and seller descriptions place it firmly in the modern breeder scene rather than in an older regional or heirloom tradition, and its appeal comes from combining brutal heat with a pod shape that looks especially wild even by superhot standards.
There is one major naming conflict around this pepper. Some sellers now distinguish the Kevin Bane superhot as the regular Ragnarok, while separately listing another different pepper as “Ragnarok MP” and explicitly stating that two different breeders used the same name. In current trade, the standard Ragnarok name most often points to the Kevin Bane superhot chinense with dark green to red pods and roughly million-SHU heat, while the other same-name pepper is treated as a separate variety.
