About this pepper

Red Savina is a Capsicum chinense cultivar developed in the United States by Frank Garcia of GNS Spices in Walnut, California. It is a selected red-fruited variant of the habanero, bred specifically for increased heat and stable traits.

Pods are lantern-shaped, typically measuring 5 to 7 centimetres long and 3 to 5 centimetres wide. Fruits mature from green to a vivid red and have thicker flesh than many standard habanero types.

Heat levels are extremely high, reaching up to 577,000 Scoville Heat Units. Red Savina held the Guinness World Record as the world's hottest chilli from 1994 until 2006. It became widely used in hot sauces and chilli products and remains historically significant in Capsicum breeding.
