About this pepper

Rocopica Cross, Large is a cultivated hybrid Capsicum pubescens pepper originating from Bolivia. It descends from Rocopica, itself a hybrid between the wild Ulupica (Capsicum cardenasii) and cultivated Rocoto, and was further crossed back to Rocoto to reinforce pubescens traits.

Plants are perennial in suitable climates and have light green, fuzzy leaves and purple flowers typical of Capsicum pubescens. Pods are large, roughly golf ball-sized, with very thick walls and black seeds. Fruits mature from dark green to bright red.

The flavour is rich and strong with substantial heat, averaging around 100,000 Scoville Heat Units. Compared to standard Rocotos, this cross matures faster and produces heavy yields, making it better suited to shorter growing seasons.
