Rocoto Orange (CAP 867)
Rocoto Orange, also catalogued as CAP 867, is a Capsicum pubescens cultivar from Peru. Capsicum pubescens is one of the oldest domesticated chilli species, cultivated in the Andean region for thousands of years.
Plants display classic pubescens traits, including hairy leaves, purple flowers, and black seeds. They can grow up to about 1 metre tall and perform well in cooler conditions.
Pods are small to medium, apple-shaped, and typically measure 2.5 to 5 centimetres in diameter. Fruits mature from green to orange and have thick, juicy walls.
The flavour is fruity and fresh, with moderate heat averaging around 10,000 Scoville Heat Units. Rocoto Orange is used in a wide range of traditional and modern dishes where texture and flavour are as important as heat.
