About this pepper

Roxa X is a United States seed-trade chilli released by Texas Hot Peppers as a THP Exclusive in its 2019 new-varieties range. It is described by the seller as an off-pheno selection from Bico Roxa, which places it within the dark-foliaged Brazilian roxa-type chinense group rather than as a separate old heirloom line.

The plant is described as dark foliaged, highly ornamental, and very productive, with the seller specifically noting very high yields even in extreme conditions. Its fruits are described as purple before maturing to a deep red finish, giving it a stronger red-ripe endpoint than the more black-to-red mottled presentation often described for Bico Roxa itself.

Its background is tied to Bico Roxa, a Capsicum chinense line associated with Brazil and described in seed trade as a cross involving Biquinho, Chupetinho, and Pimenta Bode Roxa. In that broader lineage, Roxa X carries forward the dark foliage and coloured fruit character that made the roxa types popular, but it is explicitly sold as unstable rather than fixed.

Grow-out documentation from 2020 showed Roxa X seed producing at least two phenotypes at the seedling stage, matching the seller's description of it as an unstable off-pheno. That instability is the central defining feature of the line, making Roxa X less a standardised finished cultivar and more a selected roxa-derived hybrid expression circulated under a specific trade name.
