Scotch Brain Strain Yellow
Scotch Brain Strain Yellow is a modern Capsicum chinense hybrid sold in current seed trade as a yellow-fruited Scotch Brain type and described as a cross between Scotch Bonnet and Yellow 7 Pot Brain Strain. By October 2018 the exact name was already in documented grower circulation, and by March 2026 it was in active commercial sale through Matt’s Peppers as a yellow variation of Scotch Brain Strain.
The plant is described as a super-hot yellow type with a citrusy, fruity flavour and an intense burn that sits on the lower end of the superhot range in some listings. Current growing and retail descriptions place it at about 60.0 to 90.0 cm tall, with pods classed from under 2 inches to 3.0 to 6.0 inches long, which places the fruit from under 50 mm up to about 15.5 cm depending on phenotype. The pods are repeatedly described as flatter and less round than Yellow Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, with a tapered, twisted, brainy surface and heavy capsaicin oil along the inner walls. They begin green and ripen to gold or yellow.
In current use it is treated as a flavour-forward superhot rather than a novelty-only pepper. Seller descriptions repeatedly recommend it for hot sauce, powders, thin slices over finished dishes, and chicken-based food, with the citrus profile being a major part of its appeal. Its place in pepper culture is tied to the modern hobby-breeding scene built around Scotch Bonnet flavour and 7 Pot Brain Strain texture, giving it a reputation as a very tasty yellow superhot with a distinctive flattened, twisted look. Major factual conflict: live sources disagree on heat, with some listing it at 400,000 to 800,000 SHU and others at 1,000,000+ SHU.
