Scotch Brains XCP Yellow is a modern Capsicum chinense hybrid associated with Christopher Phillips, a U.S.-based chilli breeder from Alabama. Current breeder-linked and vendor descriptions identify it as an accidental cross that appeared in Phillips’ garden in 2018. White Hot Peppers describes it as an unknown cross derived from Scotch Brains, with Phillips suspecting Bhutlah Scorpion as the other parent, while other sellers summarise that second parent more generally as an unknown superhot. The yellow form is treated in current seed circulation as one phenotype that emerged from that cross.

Plants are described as productive and usually grow to about 91.5 to 122.0 cm tall. The pods are heavily bumpy and gnarly with a bonnet-like shape, typically about 5.0 to 7.5 cm long and about 5.0 to 7.5 cm wide, with thick, crunchy walls and a dense, solid feel. They begin green and ripen bright yellow, with current descriptions emphasising flavour and texture as much as heat. The flavour is commonly described as fruity and citrusy with a Scotch Bonnet-like character, and the pepper is regularly recommended for sauces, powders, salsas, and fresh use.
