Shuhorn Longhorn

Shuhorn Longhorn is a United States-bred Capsicum annuum hybrid created from Shu Variegated and Thunder Mountain Longhorn. It was publicly shown by 24 September 2023 and later described in breeder and seed listings as an F4 to F5 line, placing it in the early but advancing stages of selection. Its identity is built around combining the white-and-green variegated foliage and upright ornamental pod character of Shu Variegated with the extreme length and slender shape of Thunder Mountain Longhorn.

The plant is described as vigorous, slender, and highly productive, usually reaching about 70 to 90 cm tall. Its foliage is variegated green and white, and the pods are long, thin, and usually upright, commonly around 10 to 20.5 cm long. The fruit is especially distinctive for its striped immature stage, shifting from green into bright white variegation before finishing red, which gives the plant a strong ornamental look even before full ripeness.

In flavour and use, Shuhorn Longhorn is usually described as having a cayenne-like or mildly smoky taste with a fairly strong but not extreme heat level. Seed listings place it around 50000 to 70000 SHU, while the Thunder Mountain Longhorn parent is widely associated with drying, smoking, powders, and sauces, especially because of its long thin fruit and clean seasoning profile. In this cross, that longhorn character is paired with variegation and striping, making the pepper stand out as both an ornamental plant and a practical drying type.

Shuhorn Longhorn sits firmly in the modern collector and breeder scene, where unusual foliage, strong pod shape, and striking colour transitions are central to the appeal. Its story is not tied to an old regional heirloom tradition, but to recent hand-made breeding work focused on combining visual drama with useful fruit.
