Sugar Rush Peach
Sugar Rush Peach is a Capsicum baccatum cultivar discovered in 2012 in Wales by breeder Chris Fowler of Welsh Dragon Chilli. It emerged from open pollination of South American baccatum genetics and was subsequently stabilised and distributed through seed exchanges and catalogues.
Pods begin light green to golden yellow and ripen to a distinctive peach-orange colour. Mature fruit are elongated and cylindrical with gentle ridging, commonly measuring about 7.0 to 15.0 cm long and approximately 3.5 to 4.0 cm wide, though size can vary between seed sources.
Heat is generally reported between 30000 and 50000 SHU. A working figure of 30000 SHU reflects a conservative central estimate within that range. Some listings report higher values, occasionally up to 100000 SHU, but there are no widely published independent laboratory tests specific to this cultivar.
Flavour is widely described as bright, fruity and slightly floral, with citrus or stone-fruit notes. These descriptions are anecdotal and based on grower and seller accounts rather than formal sensory analysis.
Plants are vigorous and productive, often exceeding 120.0 cm in height under favourable conditions and producing abundant pods over a long season. Variation in heat and pod size between sources reflects differences in seed lots and growing conditions rather than a formally standardised laboratory profile.
Sugar Rush Peach has also given rise to related selections such as Sugar Rush Cream and Sugar Rush Stripey through mutation or further selection within its lines.
