Sweet Shito is a modern United States Capsicum annuum hybrid bred by Peter Stanley of Clyde, North Carolina. Matt's Peppers identifies it as a cross of Shishito and Stavros Greek Pepperoncini, and public mentions show it was already being grown by 2019, before appearing by name in a 2020 giveaway announcement that listed it among Peter Stanley's varieties.

The ripe pods shown in current seed listings are elongated, pendant, smooth to lightly wrinkled, tapered, and bright red at maturity. Its parentage matches that appearance closely: Shishito contributes the narrow, slightly wrinkled frying-pepper form, while Stavros Greek Pepperoncini is described as a sweet Greek pepperoncini with long fruit that ripens from green to red or red-orange.
